Murder on the Orient Express

Recently, i've been getting around to reading literary classics like Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. Truth be told, i've never read a mystery novel in my life before Agatha Christie. One time, i tried to read this one mystery novel i believe by Heather Graham, it wasn't at all suspenseful and i think, most likely, after a chapter or two, i stopped reading and didn't even bother to check who was the culprit in the end.

So months ago, my sister bought an Agatha Christie book called And then there were None from a book sale. The book cover had a picture of this weird looking fish and the pages had already turned yellow with time. It wasn't appealing to me and so, there wasn't enough motivation for me to continue reading after a page or two. (for me, sadly, a nice looking cover is the deal breaker) Even though my sister told me that it was a fantastic book... and so, just to get her to stop talking about the book, i asked her to tell me who the murderer was. I have regretted that till this day, It was a foolish move. Because right now, i so want to read it with the right amount of suspense one should have when they read a good book. But now, i know the effing ending. No use of word in this world could define the feeling i have right now, i ruined the ending of one of the most popular mystery books of all time. Damn you ugly looking fish covered book.

IT'S NOT MY FAULT THAT I LITERALLY JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER.

Anyways, the reason why i feel this way is because of Murder on the Orient Express. The first mystery novel i've ever read. This is what sparked me to start reading the rest of Agatha Christie's books, i mean ALL of it, starting first with Hercule Poirot's books. Before i actually started reading it though, i went to find out who this Agatha Christie was. I know i know, HOW THE HELL CAN YOU NOT KNOW WHO AGATHA CHRISTIE IS??? Well, deal with it, i'm just 19, i've still got more to learn.

And so i watched Brainpop, this interactive and educational website that makes animated videos about everything a kid or even an adult can learn about like Technology to World History to Literature. One video particularly, talked about Agatha Christie and after watching it, somehow or another, i decided that i wanted to give one of her books a try, which was, as you know it, Murder on the Orient Express.

One interesting fact i learned about Agatha Christie was that in December 3rd 1926, Christie's husband told her that he was having an affair with another woman and demanded a divorce. After her husband went off to be with his mistress, Agatha disappeared. But not before sending a letter to the police that she was afraid for her life. Her car was later found in a chalk pit in Newlands Corner, England. And Christie was missing. In the car were just a suitcase and some clothes. The police searched the area but with no results... 2 weeks later, Christie was found in hotel in the town of Harrogate, Yorkshire. She claimed to be suffering from Amnesia...

Spooky isn't it? But i think it was just a stunt she played to get more people to read her books. It worked for me though :)

Okay, moving on! For those who don't know what Murder on the Orient Express is, let me explain it to you and those of you who know, please, bear with me for a while :)

In this book, the plot is as follows...
Just after midnight, the famous Orient Express is stopped in its tracks by a snowdrift. By morning, the millionaire Samuel Rachett lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside. One of his fellow passengers must be the murderer.

Isolated by the storm and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must find the killer amongst a dozen of the dead man's enemies, before the murderer decides to strike again...

The plot alone, should give you the chills, if not, the ending surely will. I will not divulge any more information, you should read it for yourself if you have not started on it. It's going to be the best greatest MOST CORRECT decision you will EVER make.

And so, i'll only say that the big reveal made my jaws drop. It is true. Unconsciously even. Heck it might have been a few minutes until i actually realised my mouth my gaping. This, i have to say, is one of the best human creation ever made. A piece of literary art.
