I was a feminist before I even knew what Feminism was

I was sitting on one of those green plastic chairs with fold-able table and half listening to what my teacher was explaining in religious class. Although I much prefer seeing myself as a free thinker now, in the past, I had to take these lessons because let's face it, I have my mom to face if I didn't go.

Anyways, my teacher was saying something and a sentence he said turned my nonchalance into attention. "Girls are created from mud," the teacher explained coolly. Immediately, I remember clearly the anger building up inside me as I scowled, turned my head towards him and asked, "and boys?"

"Also out of mud," he stated. And I was like, "oh, okay" and went back to whatever I was doing.

I was 8.
